My name is Dulcey Griffith

I am a Registered Nurse, Board Certified Pediatric Nurse, and a Certified Transformative Nurse Coach. I have over 25 years of experience encompassing Med-Surg, Diabetes, Emergency, Primary Care, Research, Telehealth, Charge Nursing, and mentoring new nurses.

In 2021, I became a Transformative Nurse Coach through the Nurse Coach Collective. I began 1:1 coaching with students and people from all walks of life dealing with stressful and overwhelming life events. In 2023, I became a Certified Yoga Teacher in Mindful Movement. I started an online class along with group coaching with weekly affirmations, presentations about brain and body connectivity, and sharing mindful tools for everyday use. In January 2024, I will offer in-person Mindful Movement Classes.

My Story

As a young girl, I went through a series of traumatic events with Bone Cancer significant to leg amputation with chemotherapy treatments. One of the chemotherapy treatments caused severe immunosuppression that quickened to an infection in the bloodstream, causing sepsis, which led to cardiac arrest and later blindness in one of my eyes.

What followed this tragic event was more inpatient chemotherapy treatments of 1 ½ years that took a toll on my life with sickness and loss of my beautiful long hair. I was afraid and consumed with self-doubt, negative body image, and anxiety over what the future would hold. I lost many friends during this time because they lacked the emotional capacity to deal with my cancer diagnosis.

What became of this catastrophic event in my life?

CHANGE is what happened. So much was out of my control with being diagnosed with cancer as a child and now left with only one leg and eye forever. Nonetheless, intense feelings come from natural events in life like illness, trauma, or death, but how we handle them is up to us. I have used all these difficult times and pain to become the resilient woman and Nurse I am today.

Honestly, I believed as a child, I had a higher purpose for my life when I became an amputee and a cancer survivor. I longed to be an encourager, inspirer, advocator, and Nurse because of all my nurses' encouragement. Still, it was difficult for me to deal with this amputation and build the career I wanted as a nurse.

I am grateful today that I listened to my heart instead of those words of the college counselor of discouragement and misunderstanding of my abilities. As a result, I have been far more capable of setting goals and reaching them with faith and perseverance. My biggest wish today as a Transformative Nurse Coach is to assist other people with similar traumatic struggles.

Invest in yourself! Invest in life! Invest in transformation! Dreams are possible!

When going through the health history questionnaire I realized it was crucial that I continue to strive to “get myself back”. The nurse coaching sessions had me create my own optimal health goals I chose to exercise on a regular basis again, because I am not getting any younger.  I am glad that she was TRULY dedicated to helping me.

Creating a life, I want was scary for me to think about, but nurse coaching was the  avenue. Our sessions helped me let go of fear and return me to my natural state to relax and know that I am enough. I was able for the first time to just take a breath and breathe and know I can do what is best for me like self-love without feeling guilt.

When I started nurse coaching, I was in some of the biggest challenges of my life.  I could not see my daughter and it was hard to get through a day without thinking about her smile. I Learned how to be enough to support myself and my daughter. I now have visitation rights to my daughter and my own home by setting my goals within the sessions.
